Hailey Turner - Soulbound V: On the Wings of War

I'm almost at the end of this book. And I decided to start writing about it while it is still fresh in my memory. I always do better with these posts when I start writing them during reading instead of after I finish the book.

This book, like all the previous ones, follows special agent Patrick Collins (and his boyfriend Jonno, the god pack werewolf). They are tracking down the Morrigan staff and it leads them to an auction in London. So they drag Lucien in to be the one to bid for the staff as they can't easily get into the auction. Lucien is a vampire. A ruling vampire from New York, Manhattan.

In London, they encounter the local god pack and find out that one of the leaders is actually a hunter possessed by a demon of a pretty high rank. They dance around each other for a while until it all culminates during the auction and after a big fight, the staff is gone. They track it to Paris and after a bit of searching and a meeting with the Paris god pack, they have to fight their way through a horde of some kind of super zombies and try and defeat the necromancer that seems to have the staff and is a worshiper of some death god from Europe of old. I'm pretty sure the god's name starts with a T, but don't ask me to spell it out, it sounded complicated. I think it was from Slavic folklore specifically.

My favorite character is Patrick, but I also really like Wade, he's part of Jonno's pack, together with Patrick (the co-leader) and Sage, lawyer, and a weretiger. She's strong and pretty smart. But Wade is the real treat. He's a fledgling dragon and honestly, he's hilarious! I love the parts he's in. He has a bottomless pit for a stomach and is a notorious thief. If it's shiny, you can be reasonably sure it will find its way into his pocket. He's always complaining about being hungry and it's just absolutely epic!

I'm honestly not the biggest fan of Jonno. Maybe because he's a werewolf and somehow, I'm reading this book even though werewolves are quite a big part of it. Honestly, I prefer Lucien. I don't know why, but if I had to choose between a werewolf and a vampire, I'd pick the vampire. As long as it's not a sparkly one. I don't want those. Thank you very much.

As I said at the beginning, this is the fifth book in the series and there's at least one more, probably at least two. I'm not sure right now. I'm sure about book six. I have it.

I could also do without the explicit sex scenes. I love reading BL, but honestly, I'm the type of person that prefers fluff and not the explicit sex scenes. If I wanted those, I'd watch porn. I'm simply a sucker for fluff. Still, the series is pretty good and I am enjoying it. So, if you are either into BL or you don't mind it, but like spy mysteries, maybe give it a try. Well, spy mysteries... It also has magic, so yeah... I think you get the point. Or at least I hope you do.

See you in the next post, okay?
